DESCRIPTION

When Dr. Visvanathan, an eminent Singapore psychiatrist, gets a new patient, he is astounded to find the child able to speak an ancient language. At the time the child becomes his patient, he begins to have strange dreams about a past life in the ancient city of Harappa, where he had once lived as a renowned physician and mystic. Visva gets the sense that the dreams are somehow connected to this child, but as a scientist, he does not believe in karma or reincarnation. However, as he continues to experience the strange dreams and telepathic episodes, he is forced to confront either the possibility of his own insanity, or the fact that there may be things in the world that cannot be fully explained by science.

Read this book when someone recommended it since i am a historical fiction buff. Totally blown away by the character development and how the author actually managed to create images in my mind through just words. I was totally engrossed through out. Loved it!

The writing is phenomenal!

There are so many aspects this book has scored well with me. Firstly, I am not a fan of the historical fiction genre but Disorientation just changed my preference for the genre. I absolutely love the depth of research the writer did to pen down so many fascinating details about the ancient world and how she connects the story between mythology, fiction and history. Secondly, the writing is phenomenal as it is easy to understand and yet has the force to hook me on to it to be unputdownable. Thirdly, I seriously appreciate the deep knowledge the writer has on history and psychology as well as the depth of research she has done on mythology, ancient medicine and practices. I have learnt so many fascinating stuff from this book and I hardly can wait to see how the story develops and conclude. Fourthly, the names of the characters are beyond beautiful. They are so fascinating to be pronounced in the head and according to the writer, there are meanings to the names she chose for each character. I really hope there will be an audio version for this book. Must pick up book to read.

Mysticism, time travel and love

V J Singham takes the reader on a roller coaster ride. The past is mysterious, and the present is not so easily understood. But Singham begins to open secrets, revealing a little with every turn of the page. Taking you to the Indus Valley Civilization and then bringing you back into present day Singapore the writer creates a thirst to get to the bottom of the mystery.

A thoroughly enjoyable book, full of twists and turns, keeping you hooked to every word till the very end. And then you ask, 'where is the second book?'

However, it might a good idea to put the story in context - where, when and how. A map and a general introduction to the region and the time these incidents happened might help.

***[Note from Publisher: The map has been later added into the latest published edition]***
